MARCH 2011 – Extreme Couponing

For the first month of my experiment I will use a coupon for everything that I spend money on.  That means if I don’t have a coupon, I can’t buy it.  Everything from milk to shampoo to underwear will have to be bought with a coupon.  But can I buy everything I need this way?  Will I save money?  Will I buy things I don’t need because I have a coupon for it? Where do I find coupons?

  1. Hey Linds… great undertaking! I can wait to hear and read your stories. I’m here for support. Good luck, but I know you don’t need it – except for the month of dating 🙂

  2. Best place for coupon hunting start with the Shoppers Drug Mart flyers. Also find out when stores in your area have discount for seniors and befriend one on that day…..creepy NOT:)

  3. Schwietz!!! I love this!!! What a fabulous idea, I can’t wait to hear all about your journey. You will also be happy to know this is the first blog I have ever subscribed too. You go girl 🙂

So I saw a program on this extreme couponing on TLC or something and was completely blown away buy it. My main take aways from the show were that a) Its extremely time consuming, b) requires an extraordinary amont of planning and c) you can actually get things for almost free if you are good at it.

    All the best

    • Thanks Annie! I have seen parts of the TLC program. Unfortunately in Canada most often you can’t stack coupons (use more than one coupon for the same item) or use them against sale items, so it’s a lot harder. I’ll be writing more about this during the month… Stay tuned!

  4. Hey Bloggy 😛

First of all I just wanted to say that I think this sounds like a fantastic idea! I think it is SO great and I am SO interested in it and I can’t wait to read the book in the end of it all! If there is anything I can do in anyway to help with this project, I would be more than happy to because a) it’s you 🙂 and b) I think the project is THAT great!

Now secondly I do have one suggestion for you March challenge: Why not try to find one of those “Entertainment Books”? You know the ones that are like a bible of coupons? I think if you can get your hands on one of those – you’ll find yourself not only breezing through this challenge, but trying new things rather than barely scraping by on necessities 🙂

The only problem is I don’t know where you get them. I think they might be sold pre-Christmas or something… my best suggestion here would be to post on kijiji or something and hope for the best…

Anyway good luck with everything! And I can not wait to follow the blog as your story and experiences unfold 🙂 Way to go Schwietz ~ Original, creative and extremely interesting idea!
