Day fifty-five

(noun) a specification of an object, manifested by an agent, intended to accomplish goals, in a particularenvironment, using a set of primitive components, satisfying a set of requirements, subject to constraints;
(verb, transitive) to create a design, in an environment (where the designer operates) (Wikipedia)

Every creator painfully experiences the chasm between his inner vision and its ultimate expression.

I am definitely stuck with that problem right now!  Besides the interior design I am trying to execute with creating new art and deciding where to hang it so it looks great (my vision is not quite working with my expression at the moment), I’m also trying to design business cards for the blog so I can increase publicity and hand them out when people want more information.  Every time I try something it never looks quite as good as what’s in my head.  My lack of graphic design skills is pretty apparent right now (remember my website before Regan so graciously redesigned it?).  I did do some theatrical design back in university (mostly lighting design, although I did dabble in set and costume design), but that doesn’t seem to be helping me at the moment.  At least I don’t have to design any architectural changes to the apartment!  And I’m not designing any fashion to wear while handing out these business cards or doing any engineering designs! (See this paragraph for my subtle listing of some of the kinds of design there are.)

There are so many ways to approach designing something.  From my research, I think the best thing I can do is keep it simple, identify the goal, work out all the different ways I can accomplish my goal, then trust my gut and try it out!
