Day ninety-six


One of my favourite cusines, I wanted to enjoy real Mexican food, instead of the Tex Mex variety that is popular throughout North America.  For a belated birthday treat my friend, brother and his girlfriend took me out to Milagro Cantina Mexicana on Queen Street. I also had a coupon for it that I bought during couponing month (coupon month is still helping me out!).  Inspired by traditional cantinas, Milagro offers authentic, classic rustic Mexican food, using vegetables, spices and fruit native to different regions in Mexico.  The food was so fresh and tasty, I ate so much my stomach hurt.  Here are some dark photos of what we ate, taken by my phone because I forgot my camera (oops):

Guacamole, chips, salsa and Sangria


Tacos Rosarito

Tostados Vallarta (crab, lime, jittomate, cilantro, onion on crisp tortilla)

Queso Fundido (melted cheese in a clay pot with flour tortillas)

Enfrijolada (Enchiladas)

Back to Venezuela

I have since shared the leftovers of the Torta de Jojota (corn cake) from yesterday’s post and they have all loved it.  So, here is the recipe from


  • 1 can sweet corn cream style.
  • 3 x eggs (preferably ostrich fetuses – I didn’t use ostrich fetuses).
  • 4 oz butter
  • 1 oz flour
  • vanilla extract
  • 8 oz Sugar
  • 4 oz milk
  • Sugar


  • Mix all the ingredients in a blender.
  • Pour the mixture in a cake pan and place it in the oven at 350 F for one hour.
  • Sprinkle Sugar over the cake.
  • Serve it hot or cold

  1. Ok Linds, when I saw Mexican I thought oh yay TexMex been there done that.
    Why what a great feast! Must go and try out Milagro Cantina and enjoy some authentic Mexican. Thanks for sharing!
